Catching the ball!

Clearly some of us where bothered by our work done yesterday (catching the ball activity)as we move forward how are we going to get everyone back on task?

  1. I believe part of the reason some got off task because we had to start over several times. This resulted in some people becoming impatient and not being active for a while. We need to switch up the order of things. If we drop the ball then those that started first should move towards the end of the line. Then hopefully everyone will have equal time throwing and catching the ball.

  2. we can never get everyone on task, only ouselves can get oueselves on tast, but other can encourage eachother instead of yelling at eachother like we are doing now. but i think that this should not happen as long as everyone gives 100% of their effort and takes things seriously. with the ball activity some people were not taking it seriously, its fine to mess up but we will mess up alot less if everyone gives effort which is not happening so others have to encourage thoes people to.

  3. i agree 100% with brady and randi. some people were screwing around instead of taking it seriously and others just got bored after restarting a bunch of times. rotating the order would really help. also i think there should be a reward if we finish the activity within a certain amount of tries.

  4. I agree with everyone who answered the question above me. A lot of people lost focus because they were near the end of the line, they didn't get too participate as much. So we should move around the order so that everyone gets equal participation. That way everyone feels like an important part in this activity.

  5. I also agree with brady. The fact that it took us several times people started to get impatient and lose interest which caused us to drop the ball several more times. I think if we all just get focused before and strategize then we can probably get it in the first two or three times. Theb people wont get impatient and we will jave accomplised what we needed to do.!

  6. I agree with everyone who answered above me. I think its a great idea if stopped to define a clear strategy and order before we started, that way we could avoid having to start over so many times and argue over different plans each time we mess up. We also do need to keep up our focus and not goof around as much if we want to get it done quicker. Inevitably, we will drop the ball by mistake and have to start over, but those are the times that we need to keep encouraging our classmates that its okay and be patient with everyone since it is such a tedious task instead of just becoming frustrated with each other.

  8. People respond better to positive feedback than punishment. Some kind of rewards system might work, such as stickers. Stickers are cool. Maybe make it competitive, whoever gets the most stickers wins? A little healthy competition could motivate the class to work harder.

  9. I feel like a whole class period should be spent in the a tight knee to knee circle and everyone expressing their real thoughts about the class. I actually thought about the environment of the classroom this weekend and I feel like some kids are totally on board, others are in the middle and then there are kids completely disturbing what everyone else is trying to build. Either this or a day of quiet meditation to get everyone back on track from the weekend and with a clean mind to try the ball activity the following day.

  10. I also agree with brady and randi if we switched things up a little we would keep focus and archive our goal

  11. I agree with what brady said with the idea that we should switch up the starting point of the ball because i think that would ensure that everyone was involved and paying attention. this way i think the impatience would be limited and it would also make the game more enjoyable.

  12. Like Brady said we had to restart the activity a few times. When we had to restart it after restarting it a few times some of the student probably got to e restless. They got tired of restarting and might have given up after those few restarts. But I think if we as a group try our hardest not to give up then we would be able to successfully complete these activities without getting frustrated and restless.

  13. I agree with what everyone above me said. I also think that as a class we need to work on patience (patience not to mess around when we get bored and patience not to get frustrated). I think the only way to really get past it is for us to do more activities that will test our patience and our teamwork.

  14. Impatience was one of the main things holding our class back on Friday. I think that Brady's idea of switching up the order each time is a great way to get everyone more involved and on task. If people know that they will have to participate more frequently, there is a smaller chance that they will goof around or become impatient (because there isn't as much waiting around). Also, I think that if we choose to do this it is important that we discuss it as a class beforehand, just so that everyone is clear on the plan.

  15. I agree with what everyone else said. It's hard to stay focused on what the task is when it gets repeated multiple times, so that became a problem. I also agree that maybe we need to find a way to actually discuss what happened and went wrong because it seems like our class has trouble with that(it doesn't help that it's first thing in the morning).

  16. Everyone was becoming impatient when we had to keep starting over. It is very difficult to complete an activity when people are impatient, so many of us just sort of gave up. We probably should listen to the some of the students' other suggestions and figure out a more sufficient way to accomplish the activity.

  17. I think things will work themselves out. It wasn't a big deal. It is just hard to deal with failure when we are far along in the task we just need to be respectful of each other.

  18. I was absent on Thursday so I am unaware of the task. But in general, I think it is upon everyone to keep up at a task. No one should have to be told to keep up at or complete a task.

  19. I feel we need a system that everyone agrees on and work towards. Everyone needs to work equally as hard so we can move on. We saw that the task is not impossible but it just needs to be executed with care. Everyone needs to put forth this effort and admit when they make a mistake. Its not a big deal. Just patience is key.

  20. As we move forward, to get everyone back on task, I think Brady's idea will really work. That way no one will be just standing around waiting, everyone will have a chance and be more involved. We also need to be very patient and respectful with each other and realize mistakes will happen, but we have to keep trying, giving 100% effort each time, and encouraging each other so we can accomplish the goal.

  21. All the posts above me touched on two important things: As a class we need to work on patience and we also should have switched up who started with the balls as Brady initially suggested. These two things would make a difference in the activity.

Also, I feel like when the beginning of the year started everyone in class was really eager to work together and be patient to solve problems. I feel like as the quarter has progressed the class has wanted to take shortcuts with tasks and are less invested in completing it as a class. I think as a class we need to reflect on this tendency.

As far as moving forward to get back on task, I think we should have a good class discussion like Maclaine suggested, but where everyone participates because right now only a few people are speaking up about how they feel. By assessing what is going wrong and working together to fix this, I think we can get back on task.

  22. So i think that yes we were all impatient but this might have also been just one of those off days, though im not trying to bring out an excuse. Something that i noticed, not trying to put anyone one the spot, is that some activities require a leader but in this one, a leader wasnt totally necessary...a class was. so i felt like the "leaders" over powered the ability to communicate in this activity specifically though i do say that at least those people tried to lead so i salute them for that. Hopefully we can all try our best to communicate better after being able to look back at this incident.

  23. we can never keep people on task because thier always looking around the room and i think hat if your partner is looking around the room tell them to pay attention so they are ready for when the tennis ball comes to them
